Library/Learning Commons

Library/Learning Commons

Mekeel’s Library/Learning Commons is a hub of learning for the students.  In addition to housing our collection of more than 12,000 titles, the library is home to our stationary computer lab (which is in addition to our two mobile labs), Resource Room/Tutoring Center, and College Counseling Office.

Mekeel is committed to increasingly expanding our technology offerings to our students.  Currently we have two mobile labs that are used daily, a class set of tablets that are used in the primary grades, and a stationary computer lab, as well as Promethian Boards in some of our classrooms.  Every classroom is outfitted with a projector and document camera.  Our teachers use technology to bring many interesting learning opportunities to our students.

Here’s a sampling of the way MCA Lions and Jr. Lions learn through technology:

  • Google Classroom for homework submission and discussion boards
  • Stop motion animation in art class
  • Podcast creation
  • Prezi
  • TodaysMeet
  • Google Slides and Docs
  • i-Ready and Khan Academy for math
  • Spelling City
  • YouTube
  • Research for projects and a quick answer to a question
  • Educational games and videos
  • Science experiments and informational videos
  • Microphone and audio production software to record voices and monitor progress in music class

Resource Room/Tutoring Center

In addition to special education services provided through Scotia-Glenville (our local public school district), Mekeel offers our own in-house resource room.  The MCA resource room exists to support students who may not qualify for special education services but need more help mastering concepts or developing organizational skills than can be provided through general instruction.  For more information about how the resource room can benefit your child, please contact Mrs. Mathews (

College Counseling

Mekeel is dedicated to helping our families navigate the college admissions process.  Monthly parent information nights are held by our College Counselor, Mrs. Waite, in addition to a weekly college counseling class for students in grades 9-12.  We also hold several events during the year that host specialists in the field of college admissions and financial aid.  Each student also receives an account with an online college guidance program, Naviance, to ensure that all students and parents have pertinent, helpful information such as specialized college search tools, various personalized assessments for job placement and choice of majors.  For more information regarding College Counseling at MCA, please contact Mrs. Kasey Waite (
