PHILOSOPHY OF THE MEKEEL ATHLETIC PROGRAM
Athletics have had a significant influence on our students and families and are a major factor in advancing the mission of Mekeel Christian Academy. We believe in the discipline of athletic competition, as it provides us the opportunity to honor God with our skills, abilities, work ethic, and commitment to team structure. Athletic achievement and distinction is a goal for all of our teams. We believe that participating on a team at Mekeel is an opportunity for personal growth and development, which all students have the opportunity to pursue as part of a complete educational process. Mekeel Christian Academy affirms the right of every student to participate in the interscholastic athletic program without regard to gender or race. We support the regulations and spirit of Title IX legislation and do not limit one sex in the enjoyment of any right, privilege, advantage or opportunity.
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.”
– Hebrews 12:11-13
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control…
-1 Corinthians 9:24-26
“Sportsmanship for me is when a guy walks off the court and you really can’t tell whether he won or lost, when he carries himself with pride either way.”
